Currently in the process of removing my airbag system. My 97 Corolla DX 1.6 only has 1 airbag and its in the steering wheel.
Ive got the battery removed, yellow wiring connectors disconnected under the steering coloum and to the sensor under center console. Got all the covers off and have loosened the Torx screws until they catch on the screw casing tabs. The airbag module should now lift out from the steering wheel; but it is not!
I have been following the Haynes manual. I tried prying it out with a panel tool and trying to pull and shake it out with my hands but something else is holding it down.
It says not to remove the Torx screws past the screw casing tabs but I even tried that; but they wont loosen any further.
Anybody else have this issue??

I figured it out. The Torx screws wouldnt unscrew out past the casing tabs (even when I held them open). I ended up using a flat screwdriver to pop the screws out past the tabs which released the module from the steering wheel.
The haynes manual isnt that clear on how far the screws have to be loosened but it does say to not remove them completely which is what caused the confusion.
